5K for Unity: A Unified Success

 

On Saturday July 17, 2021, Together We Stand NC partnered with Fleet Feet Sports and CEP Compression to host the 5K For Unity.  The 5K’s were hosted simultaneously at five brewery locations in North Carolina: Divine Barrel Brewing (Charlotte), Foothills Brewing (Winston-Salem), Little Brother Brewing (Greensboro), Ponysaurus Brewing (Durham, and Vecino Brewing (Carrboro).

 

On a balmy summer afternoon, over 500 registered runners/walkers participated in the event across five cities. The walk/run was anchored by a conversation about social injustice and racial harmony. Together We Stand NC posted six thought provoking questions to prompt the discussions.

 

 The event raised $7540 for Neighborhood Hope, Black Child Development Institute, Unity Way of Forsyth County, and Girls on the Run of the Triangle.  Each brewery chose a local charity to support for their 5K. Locally Ponysaurus Brewing and Vecino Brewing raised $3100 for Girls on the Run of the Triangle.

Together We Stand NC had designated July 17th, the 7th anniversary of the death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, as a day of conversation and contemplation at your local brewery.  Our local breweries are a safe space for all races and sexual orientations.
