The adage “Sticks and Stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is wrong and outdated.  For centuries words have been used to demean and dehumanize people of all races and ethnicities.  Now more than ever, language is misused, misunderstood and weaponized. Consider these words we encounter daily:

Ally, Anti-racism, BIPOC, Critical Race Theory, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Implicit Bias, Intersectionality, Latinx, Microaggression, Privilege, Racism

What do these words mean?  How are they used? How can we use the power of language and empathy to change how we speak to each other? We will discuss this and more in the next Courageous Conversations.
